Exploring node based webgl design

Published: at 01:22 PM

I’ve been playing around with cables.gl. Took a little focus to find out how data flows and the thing about using triggers, but essentially it holds a lot of similarities to other node based systems. Quite a lot from the Meta Spark Studio is similar. And a bunch from Unity’s Shadergraph too.

I have managed to figured out how to split arrays of points into arrays of Vector3’s that I can then adjust with random time values to create the illusion of a dynamic particle simulation.

Click and drag to rotate (vertical axis rotation locked). Scroll to zoom.

Really a fascinating tool! I could see how this might be preferable to writing three.js directly. Will probably create a lot more experiments like this.

The visual style of the experiment was inspired by this picture from The Big Bang poster series by Other Peter
